3 armed robbers meet Waterloo in Enugu

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three armed robbery suspects terrorising residents of Enugu metropolis.


The State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe (DSP), in a press statement disclosed that the three armed robbers were killed Sunday afternoon along Second Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.


Ndukwe also said that they were killed while in a gun battle withe security operatives and some firearms recovered from the.


He said, "A joint Police and Department of State Service operatives, today, 26/11/2023 at about 1 p.m., neutralized three (3) male armed robbery suspects at Second Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu, after a gunfight.

 
 

"The feat led to the recovery of two (2) locally-made revolver pistols, six (6) live rounds of .9mm calibre ammunition, the gang's operational tricycle with Enugu registration number MGL 100 WL and fleet number ENS/20560, and objects suspected to be charms.


"Other exhibits recovered are cash sums of about five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000.00), rolls of POS transaction printing papers, assorted mobile phones, wallets, bags, and other exhibits, the hoodlums robbed from POS operators and their customers at different locations."


The hoodlums he said had at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, attacked POS operators at different locations in Enugu metropolis, dispossessing them of the recovered exhibits.


"The operatives, however, mounted surveillance on them, while the criminal elements opened fire upon sighting them. The security operatives responded with superior firepower, neutralizing the three of them and recovering the exhibits in the process. Many of the victims have identified the hoodlums, and some recovered exhibits, as theirs."


Ndukwe said that further discreet investigation meant to fish out other members of the criminal gang is ongoing.


Meanwhile, some residents have confirmed that they were victims of the gang on Sunday with one disclosing that they robbed her of her belongings at Ibuza street, while another victim said he was robbed of his phones and some amount of money by the same gang at Onu-Asata, yet another identified them of having robbed him in front of Parklane Hospital earlier in the morning of yesterday, Sunday.
