No few than five persons were confirmed dead on Friday, following a tragic motor accident along the Enugu-Abakaliki expressway.
The accident which occurred at the G-Hostel axis of the road in Ebonyi State, also saw seven others injured.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the accident to newsmen in Abakaliki, said the it involved a fully-loaded commercial bus travelling from Enugu.
Ukandu said the bus crashed and burst into flames after hitting an obstacle in the middle of the night.
The injured victims he said are currently receiving treatment at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while
corpses of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary.
While assuring that investigations are ongoing, Ukandu offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
