Elected members of the Labour Party, LP, from Amambra Central in the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly have pledged to work hard to ensure that the party's governorship aspirant for next year's Anambra election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, emerges the next governor of the state.
At a stakeholders' meeting convened in Awka by Ozigbo, the lawmakers took turns to assure leaders and supporters of the party of their readiness to work for the success of LP in the election.
The minority whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. George Ozodinobi, who is the member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha federal constituency, said that his primary responsibility is to make sure that he galvanizes delegates and voters in his constituency towards success at the polls.
He also said he would align with the national leader of the party and others to ensure harmony, which, he added, is what the party needs to win the election.
"I will lead the battle in my constituency," Ozodinobi said.
Also, Prof. Lillian Orogbu representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, expressed confidence in Ozigbo and extolled his leadership qualities and emphasised the need for Labour Party to come together and support him.
Describing Ozigbo as grassroots favourite, she observed that there are indications that he has overwhelming momentum already and assured of the support of her constituents.
In his contribution, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency described Ozigbo as a mentor and counsellor, adding that he is more qualified than other candidates for the election.
For Kingsley Udemezue representing Idemili North in the State House of Assembly, the APGA government in the state has been marginalizing constituencies not represented by the party, insisting that the governor does not deserve a second term.
The member representing Awka South 1 constituency, Hon Henry Mbachu stated clearly that he has chosen to support Ozigbo, adding that he would leave no stone unturned to make sure he emergesthe next governor of the state.
Other speakers, including Prof Chinyere Okunna, who was Peter Obi's Chief of Staff and current Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, said Anambra needs someone who is emotionally intelligent and can connect with people, just like Peter Obi is known for, adding that this is what stands Val Ozigbo out.
Addressing the stakeholders, elated
Ozigbo promised to lead the state to a more enviable height if elected.
He repeated his earlier promise that he would do only one term of four years and hand over to another competent person from Anambra Central.
According to him, four years would be enough for any serious government to impact lives positively, adding that Governor Alex Otti is already demonstrating it in Abia State.
He said: "Anambra State under me as governor would be repositioned and transformed to an enviable height within four years because of my competence, leadership quality, and proven records of excellence."
"As an advocate of zoning, I will honour the principles of zoning, I'll transform Anambra State within four years, and hand it over to any other competent person from Anambra Central. I am a man of integrity."
