The governorship aspirant of the Labour Party, LP, for the November 8 Anambra election, Mr. John Nwosu, has expressed his readiness for the April 5 primaries of the party, debunking the insinuation that he has stepped down from the race.
Addressing LP supporters and officials of the party at its headquarters in Abuja, Nwosu reaffirmed his dedication to the party’s success in Anambra State.
He said: "Today marks a significant milestone in my life, my family’s journey, and the future of Anambra State under the Labour Party. We have gathered to celebrate and officially submit our expression of interest and nomination forms. I deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of the National Working Committee in ensuring a smooth and transparent process
Our party successfully conducted a peaceful congress in Anambra State without legal disputes, and I pray that the upcoming primaries reflect the same orderliness.
As of today, we have 21 active Labour Party offices across the state, a testament to our grassroots strength.
I assure you that if given the mandate as the party’s candidate, we will secure an overwhelming victory for the Labour Party in Anambra".
Debunking the rumour that he has stepped down from the race, his campaign organization added: "The attention of the John Chuma Nwosu Campaign Organisation has been drawn to the scurrilous rumour making the rounds that the leading Labour Party aspirant for the 2025 governorship has stepped down for another LP aspirant.
"This is a lie of enormous proportion. Today, 19 March 2025, John Nwosu returned his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja. He is very much in the race.
John Nwosu is set for the 5 April, 2025 party primaries. The Labour Party delegates will decide who will be the party candidate. Party nomination cannot be won through lies, subterfuge and mischievous fake news. We urge party faithfuls to disregard such distractive misinformation."
Chairman of John Chuma Nwosu Campaign Organization, Hon Oseloka Obaze expressed the team’s confidence in the aspirant, emphasizing the collective decision to back the best aspirant for the job.
Obaze said: "We have consulted widely and decided to present the most capable gubernatorial aspirant of the Labour Party in Anambra State. We are here today to submit the nomination forms of a candidate whose vision, competence and transformative abilities are unmatched. Above all, John Nwosu is an adroit party man, who is well known to the party leaders and at the grassroots.
We are not alone in this journey—our vibrant youths stand firmly with us. It will be a great honour to host the National Working Committee of our party in the Anambra State Government House in the near future" he concluded."
Labour Party National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure, commended Nwosu for his commitment and reassured all aspirants of a transparent nomination process.
"I strongly believe that the transformation of Nigeria will begin with Anambra State. Let me reaffirm that the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries will be free, fair, and credible.
The Labour Party upholds internal democracy, and no candidate has been anointed or will be imposed on the party. We remain Nigeria’s foremost opposition party, and we are not in alliance with any other political group, be it APGA or APC."
