Supporters of the late Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah have met for the first time since his demise, saying they are shopping for a candidate to support for the November 8 governorship election in the state.
The various support groups, who converged in Awka said their coming together was to form a common front and begin a search for a governorship candidate whose ideology matches that of their late principal.
Before his death, Senator Ubah had already declared his intention to contest the Anambra governorship seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and was very optimistic of his victory. He had also outlined various ways he intended to develop the state.
Former Chief of Staff of the late senator, Mr Vin Onyeka said the essence of their coming together was to ensure that the ideals of the senator remained alive, adding that the groups would support only a candidate who shared the same vision for Anambra as their former principal.
Onyeka said: "As we continue to mourn the painful and untimely departure of our beloved principal, Senator lfeanyi Ubah, we remain committed to upholding his legacy and vision for a better Anambra State.
"In light of the forthcoming November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, we wish to inform the general public, our supporters, and political stakeholders that we have not endorsed or thrown our weight behind any aspirant.
"Our political structure is built on the principles of human capacity development, infrastructural transformation, and selfless service to the people. We are carefully scrutinizing the antecedents, leadership qualities, and commitment of various aspirants to the core ideals that Senator lfeanyi Ubah championed.
"The leadership of this political movement is working diligently and consulting widely to ensure that when the time comes, we make an informed and strategic decision that aligns with the vision and dreams of our late Principal."
He listed the yardstick with which it would consider candidates to include; good governance, human capacity development, infrastructural transformation, economic empowerment, security and inclusive leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
He said even though Ubah was of APC before his death, the groups will not hesitate to endorse and support any candidate that meets the criteria, even if he comes from other political parties.
Recall that recently, a section of the Ifeanyi Ubah Support group endorsed an APC governorship aspirant, Sir Paul Chukwuma, while some members of the group went to Professor Obiora Okonkwo, also of the APC.
Some support groups represented by their heads at the meeting included Ubah Nation Media Center, Ikemba Front, Afaigboefuna Solidarity movement, Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Women, Ubah disciples, Ikemba Women Initiative, Door -to -door for Ifeanyi Ubah and Afa-Igbo Efuna Movement, among others.
