FORMER national auditor of All Progressives Congress, APC, and the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu, has joined the race for the 2025 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party, LP.
Addressing reporters in Nnewi, Moghalu promised to serve for only one term if electe, arguing that four years are enough for any serious governor to perform.
According to him, whatever any governor is unable to do in four years, cannot be done in eight years, adding that it is only an unprepared person that can say that he needs eight years to make an impression.
He said that his burning desire is to restore the confidence of the people in governance once more, stating that the worst thing that can happen to any administration is for the people to lose confidence in it.
Moghalu also denied the speculation that he would be contesting for the senatorial seat for Anambra South which became vacant following the death of the occupant, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
He said: “I will be contesting for governor next year and not Senate. I recently resigned from the APC, and then formally joined the LP on October 1, 2024.
Before I did so, I consulted extensively with my followers, supporters, political family, my wife and children, my friends, and I was convinced that Labour Party is the party that aligns with my person and the best suited platform to realize my ambition.
We need to redeem Anambra fast because Soludo has failed the people. There is dearth of infrastructure in the state and security has collapsed.
We will not tolerate him further. What he could not do in four years, he will never be able to do in eight years. You don’t need eight years to develop Anambra.”
