The producer of the movie in which five actors died in a boat mishap after a shooting at Anam, Anambra West local government area of Anambra State, Ms Adanma Luke, has said that the popular actor, John Paul Odonwodo (popularly known as Jnr Pope), rejected a lifejacket offered to him for safety.
Some people had blamed the driver of the ill-fated boat and the producer of the movie for not providing lifejackets for the passengers in the boat before it took off, arguing that there might not have been any loss of life if all of them were on lifejacket.
However, Adanma Luke, in a trending video, said she had provided lifejackets for everybody in the boat, including those who died and those who survived the mishap, contrary to reports making rounds.
She said: "On that shooting day, I saw my director. I saw Emeka. They were outside. My director was wearing a lifejacket. Emeka, the D.O.P. was on a lifejacket too. There was still one other jacket which I don’t know who took it."
“My production manager said they saw one lifejacket hanging there. So, they took it. He even told the late Friday to send one lifejacket to Jnr Pope, but he said it was dirty and so, he didn’t take it. The people with lifejackets survived the boat accident."
“They also told me that when they were in the water trying to survive, Jnr Pope was asking if everybody was okay. They even threw a gallon to him to use and hold himself which he was holding, but all of a sudden, they didn’t see him again,” she narrated.
She said that the unfortunate incident still feels like a dream to her, adding that she had been terribly traumatized over the incident.
Luke blamed herself for returning to Asaba as she was supposed to be on that boat with them and her brother’s two kids.
