Anambra community elects new leaders amidst heavy security

The people of Nwafia, Njikoka local government area of Anambra State have elected Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nkemka as the new president general of the community.


Two aspirants stepped down for Nkemka in an election that witnessed heavy presence of security personnel, including the army and the police.


Others elected along with Nkemka are Chief Ifeanyi Okoye, vice president general, Comrade Tony Obiesili- secretary general, Ebubechukwu Okagbue - assistant secretary general, Chief Alex Okoye - financial secretary, Obinna Okpalo - treasurer, Gab Obineme - publicity secretary, Ejike Okeke - welfare secretary and Mr Paul Diobu - provost.


Addressing the people after the election, the new PG commended his people for the confidence reposed in him.


Promising to carry everybody in the community along, Nkemka acknowledged that there had been rancour in Nawfia over the years, adding that all the people's grievances would be addressed by the new leadership.


He said: "I am grateful to our people for conducting themselves peacefully during the election and making me their PG."


"In every contest, there must be opposition and those who opposed the election exercised their right, especially when they saw that they did not have any chance to win."
