Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has commended security operatives in the state for recording zero gunshots from either the police or suspected criminals.

Speaking with journalists in his office, Orutugu said the achievement was a significant milestone, adding that it was an indication that the people of Anambra State have chosen to embrace a peaceful and crime - free environment.

Before Orutugu assumed office in February this, there was so much insecurity in the state, promoting the state government to ban activities of certain categories of native doctors and fake pastors.

According to him, Anambra, with its rich human resources and notable figures like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, among others, deserves peace.

He noted that with the commercial city of Onitsha harbouring the largest market in the country and people coming from all parts of Nigeria and beyond to do business in the city, there is need for them to enjoy utmost security, noting that the peaceful situation in the state in the last one month is gradually drawing visitors back to the state.

Orutugu wondered why people should decide to sit-at-home on a work day for no reason, but expressed joy that things are changing for the better.

He predicted an enduring peace in the state, warning, however, that the police would not allow those still harbouring evil intentions to have their way.

Orutugu emphasized the importance of proactive problem-solving, rather than relying on fixed strategies.
