Anambra CP hosts vigilante groups, hunters *Calls for all-inclusive policing

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam has revealed his plan for the state, saying he favours an all-inclusive policing.

Speaking when he hosted vigilante groups and members of the hunters association from the various communities, the CP said he is favourably disposed to hearing from everyone and anyone that would help the security agencies in enforcing the law and maintaining public order and safety in the state.

While commending the outfits for their commitment, dedication, and selfless service in assisting the Police to nip crime in the bud in the state he, however, frowned at some of the abnormalities observed among them within the communities.

Citing issues like illegal detention of suspects, mob action, illegal security levy, and assault on suspects, among others, he advised the security operatives not to allow themselves to be used against one another, especially on the communities they were expected to protect.

Itam pledged greater cooperation of officers and men of the command to the legitimate and recognized security outfits in the state and proposed the creation of a state policing model anchored on the platform of the Police Community Policing Committee that will accommodate all security outfits. The model, he added, would harmonize the sharing of intelligence information.

During the interactive session, the security operatives expressed some of their concerns in the course of their duties, which the CP addressed.

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunne thanked the CP for the engagement with the security outfits and hoped that it would be held regularly.

Others who attended the meeting include the management team of the Police command, State and Zonal chairmen of Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, representative of the Director of the Department of State Security, Hunters Association of Nigeria, representative of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Traditional Rulers and members of Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA).
