The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, has held its stakeholders meeting ahead of the September 28 local government election, with the major political parties boycotting.
Political parties that failed to send representatives at the meeting include All Progressives Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Labour Party, LP, and the Edozie Njoku-led faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Parties that attended the meeting include the Sly Ezeokenwa - led APGA, the Action Alliance, AA, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
According to ANSIEC, the meeting was aimed at discussing key issues and working out modalities for the September 28 local government election in the state.
It was gathered that the parties that attended meeting had already concluded their primary elections and nominated 21 chairmanship and 326 councillorship candidates.
ANSIEC Chairman, Genevieve C Osakwe, emphasized the importance of stakeholders involvement in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.
APC chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike was quoted as saying that what ANSIEC is planning to do is unacceptable, stating, "We cannot continue changing the goal post while the game is on."
Speaking in the same vein, the AA chairman, Sir Nobert Okoli emphasized the importance of political parties' involvement in the electoral process.
On his part, the SDP representative, Mr. Vincent Chukwurah, expressed concerns about the sudden election date, citing insufficient time for parties to prepare and nominate candidates.
