Police in Anambra State have assured of adequate security in Saturday's local government elections in the state, saying that residents of areas prone to insecurity will vote in their local government headquarters.
The state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam at a press conference in Awka urged the people of the state to cooperate with security operatives to ensure a seamless exercise.
The CP said: "Places like Lilu, Iseke, Ubuluisiuzo, Mbosi where there is insecurity would vote at their local government headquarters at Ihiala and they will be provided security and facilities there.
We have deployed enough manpower in the state to ensure adequate security, and we are assuring people of their safety.
We are calling the attention of the public, Anambra people and residents as they have always done in the past, to come out and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.
For us we are on ground to provide security and ensure everywhere is safe and ensure that as much as possible the will of the people will prevail.
We hope that everyone will conduct themselves with dignity. All the entry points into Anambra State would be blocked and there will be restriction and we hope people conduct themselves responsibly.
It is not a do or die affair and we hope that everyone cooperates with us to ensure a seamless exercise".
He said that there will be restriction of movement, and that the police will enforce it from 8am to 4pm.
