A governorship aspirant for the 2025 election in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu has described the September 28 local government election in the state as a cham, saying it had added to the many failures of the governor.
In a statement made available to reporters in Awka, Nwosu said the governor's performance in many areas has fallen short of expectation.
He said: "The so-called Anambra State local government election held on 28th September, 2024, deserves close scrutiny for what it represents for Anambra State. It calls into question, if the incumbent governor, Prof. Charles Soludo is a true democrat and one who keeps his promises to our people.
So far, his political campaign and leadership promises and commitments have fallen short of expectation.
The LGA election was a sham, statutorily manipulated and failed every test of credibility, transparency and inclusivity. Some Anambra stakeholders have openly condemned the election. It is understandable why it was also boycotted by Labour Party and other parties.
Gov. Soludo, we need to recall, said a in 2017 that Anambra was not broken and did not need fixing. He then promised in 2021 that on his watch, Anambra will become Dubai and that he will hold credible LGA election once he assumes office; he has failed on all counts.
Recently, he claimed that he was bequeathed billions of Naira in pension debts. Did it take him four years to find that out, or is he now confirming that Anambra he inherited from Gov. Willie Obiano was badly broken?
Gov. Soludo has had four years to acquit himself as a transformative leader; he has failed woefully. It behoves Anambra people to deny him a second term.
Simply, he has not done well for our people as regards our security, economy, infrastructure, inclusivity, social wellbeing of our people and their quality of life.
He has failed in his responsibility to protect Anambra citizens and we cannot in good conscience give Soludo another four-years to turn Anambra fully into a Gehenna. It is time to change the holder of the leadership baton in Anambra".
It was gathered that the newly elected local government officials will be sworn in on Wednesday, having received their certificate of return on October 1.
