The Anambra State Police command has ordered the arrest and interrogation of the driver of the Sienna vehicle that ran into the Oyeagu Abagana market and killed some people.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, while ordering the arrest, cautioned drivers and transporters to always do the necessary checks before plying the road, especially during this Ember months.
The CP confirmed that the accident resulted in the death of a 5 -year old girl, while four other persons were seriously injured.
He said: "Preliminary information reveals that the accident occurred due to the break failure of the Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying passengers and en route to Lagos. It rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu junction."
While condoling the family of the deceased and directing the arrest of the driver, he said that the vehicle has been recovered at the station as the investigation is ongoing.
President-General of Abagana community, Mr. Ben Okongwu, had earlier said that three people were confirmed dead, adding that several others who were injured have been taken to hospital for treatment.
He also confirmed that the crash was as a result of loss of control by the driver, who was slightly injured following the crash.
Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have moved to the scene, although its spokesperson, Margaret Onabe is yet to issue a statement.
