Anambra: Ozigbo begins mobilization for 2025 governorship poll

A chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, in Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, has begun preliminary mobilization ahead of his rumoured interest in the governorship contest of the state in 2025.


Ozigbo contested the 2021 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and came second.

As the date for the next election draws near, Ozigbo has received the first major public endorsement, even as he is yet to declare for the governorship bid.

 
 

At a high-powered meeting of Labour Party stakeholders in Njikoka local government area, which took place at Enugwu Ukwu, the host, Mr Martin Anekwe announced that they will be working for Ozigbo to become the next governor of the state.


It was the first major meeting of Labour Party stakeholders for the year 2024 and the first local government visit by Ozigbo.


"I called this meeting to inform my political family, my supporters, and all the stakeholders of the Labour Party, and the wider Njikoka political community, that for the next governorship election in our dear state, I am standing with the Labour Party, and my good friend, Valentine Ozigbo," Anekwe told the gathering.


Responding, Ozigbo expressed gratitude to Anekwe and all the party stakeholders present.

He promised to make a formal statement concerning the state of Anambra State and the 2025 governorship race very soon.


At the meeting, Ozigbo was presented with an award for his outstanding contribution to education and youth development.


Among those present at the meeting were Chief Cosmas Agagbo, Chief Okey Ezeibe, Hon Valentine Ayika, Hon Paul Obu who is Minority Whip of Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief Innocent Akpuaka and Dr. Ndubuisi George.


Others in attendance are Mr Clem Nwana, Ozomkpu Jude Ekwunife, Odenigbo Uruokwe, Ndubuisi Obi, Ambassador Charles Isintume; Chief Robinson Eziamaka, Dr Willie Emenari; Obinna Okafor, Mrs. Chinyere Nwafornta; and Joe Adigwe.


The Labour Party chairman in Anambra State, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, as well as the Executive Council and chairmen and secretaries of the party from the 18 wards in Njikoka, were present at the meeting.


Even before his formal declaration, Ozigbo is already being described as a frontrunner in the race for the 2025 governorship.
