A frontline aspirant for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, Sit Paul Chukwuma has resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC) few hours to the party's primary in Awka.

In a letter of resignation to the Umueri Ward 2 chairman of APC in Anambra East local government area, Anambra State, Chukwuma, however, promised to continue championing progressive ideas.

The resignation letter reads: ”I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My decision finds expression in my quest to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-encompassing political movement within Anambra State and support of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

While thanking you for your leadership over these years, be rest assured of my continued support to our shared progressive ideas as | will devote more time to pursuing the realization of a safe and prosperous Anambra of our dream. Kindly accept the assurances of my highest regards".

Chukwuma's resignation may be connected with the alleged manipulation of Saturday's primary election by the leadership of the party in favour of one of the aspirants.

There were fears last night that Chukwuma's dumping of APC might result in mass resignation from the party as he had, for many years, been the major financier of the party in Anambra State.

Chukwuma was the national auditor of APC and was also at a time its South East zonal youth leader.
