The Anambra State Police command says it has arrested 30 suspects over alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other criminal activities in different parts of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, gave the breakdown of the arrests as nine suspected armed robbers, 12 suspected kidnappers, six suspected cult members, and three suspected insurgents.

He said that the police also rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered 40 rounds of ammunition and 11 vehicles from the criminal gangs within the period under review.

He explained that the area commanders and divisional police officers in the 21 local government areas have been directed to beef up security in their areas of supervision to curb the activities of criminal elements during the season.

According to him, all the roads connecting Anambra with the neighbouring states of Enugu and Imo, where the hoodlums are suspected to be operating from, would be blocked completely.

He also spoke on the recent attack at Uga that led to the death of two policemen, adding that two other police operatives injured during the attack are still receiving treatment.
