The Anambra State Police command has busted a gun- running syndicate operating in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State and arrested the illegal major arms dealer and his accomplices.
Police said the syndicate was dealing in prohibited firearms in the state, explaining that the breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the Police command.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, three suspects have so far been arrested, while investigation is continuing.
Ikenga said a total of 23 Automatic Pump Action guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered.
The state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye has also commended the operatives involved in the operation on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
