The Anambra State Police command has invited a victim who was allegedly forced to pay N810,000 to a police officer to assist it in investigating the matter.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga had said that the command was aware of the information on X social media platform, of the alleged extortion by a yet -to -be identified officer of the command.
A whistle blower had in a letter, urged the police to kindly look into the case and help fish out the officers that have continued to destroy the image of the Police Force.
"We don't want to keep seeing or hearing some of these horrifying stories and I can imagine the fear they subjected this young man before forcefully taking his money.
The young man has stated that he will identify the officers and we are on standby to hear that justice has been served" he had written.
According to him, the action of some of the police officers is a reason there is a disconnect between the people and the police.
Reacting on the allegation, the PPRO said the command has initiated steps to identify the alleged officer, adding that information about the incident has been escalated to Area Commander, Onitsha for necessary action.
"The command wishes to invite the victim to come to the Police command headquarters, Awka at the Police Public Relations Office to help us with more information that will help in facilitating the necessary procedures involved in the process," the PPRO stated.
