THE Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has said that one female child was killed, while six other people were injured in the road accident that occurred at Oyeagu Market, Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.
The Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Anambra State Command of FRSC, Margaret Onabe, in a statement identified the driver of the Sienna bus with registration number NEN 588 YX, belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State, TRACAS, as
Eze Uchechukwu.
She said that the probable cause of the crash was brake failure, which made the vehicle to ram into the market.
She said: "At the time FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje arrived the scene, they were informed that the injured victims had been taken to Urban Hospital and Maternity for medical attention, while the dead victim was taken to the morgue. The vehicle was taken by DTO team Oyiagu.
The FRSC team visited the hospital where the victims were taken to for medical attention to ascertain the condition of the injured victims.
The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander sympathizes with the family of the dead victim, and wishes the injured victims quick recovery.
She admonishes motorists to service their vehicles regularly to comply with minimum safety standards before using the road.
She also warned market women to stop displaying their wares, and selling by the road side."
