Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has said that the birthrate in the state has jumped from 200 to 1600 per month in less than two years of his administration.

Soludo, who gave the figure at the birthday ceremony of a business mogul, Sir Emeka Offor at Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government area of the state attributed it to the free antennal service introduced by his government.

According to the governor, when he took over from his predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano, the total birth rate per month was 200, adding that it was obvious that the surge was due to the new programme, which he added, has also resulted to zero mortality in the state.

The governor said 52% beneficiaries of the Anambra free antenatal were non-indigenes, stating that the state government has made enormous investment in the health sector.

He commended Sir Offor for living an impactful life and reaching out to the poor and widows and urged him to continue.

In his speech, Offor thanked Nigerians for celebrating with him on his 65th birthday and promised to spend the rest of his life in the service of God and humanity.
