Residents of Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State have showered praises on Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the infrastructural development in the area.
Okpoko, the biggest slum in Anambra State, is gradually wearing a new look as Governor has constructed some roads, built a brand new General Hospital and currently upgrading schools in the area.
The joy of the people therefore knew no bounds when a human rights activist, Osita Obi led members of his Solution Marshalls on a tour of the various projects executed by the state government.
The group comprising commercial drivers, including Keke, truck, and shuttle bus drivers, who accompanied Obi, expressed delight that Okpoko slum has been turned into a liveable town.
The Senior Medical Officer in charge of Okpoko General Hospital, Dr K.C.Nnadi praised Governor Soludo for establishing such a hospital in an area populated by indigent people.
She described Soludo's free antenatal services in the state as unprecedented, noting that despite being underutilized, the facility. attends to an average of 120 patients monthly.
According to her, Soludo has made significant strides in developing Okpoko, including commissioning 12 kilometers of roads out of the 15 kilometers representing nine roads awarded in the town, thereby significantly improving the community's connectivity.
In his remarks, Obi said the tour was aimed at evaluating the way utilization of taxpayer's funds are being utilized and to enable them provide an unbiased assessment of government activities.
He observed that Okpoko General Hospital is the first in the community's history, adding that the governor has also commissioned a pipe-borne water project to ensure access to clean water for the residents of the area.
