The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly , Hon Somtochukwu Udeze has performed the foundation laying ceremony for the multimillion naira cassava processing plant at Atani, the headquarters of Ogbaru local government area of the state, which he is building for his constituents.
Speaking during a reception in his honour, Udeze said the project, which is part of his contribution to his constituency, will serve the entire Ogbaru local government area when completed.
According to Udeze, with flooding always forcing the people of the area to harvest and sell off their farm produce without making expected gains, the establishment of the cassava processing plant will help farmers to harvest and process their produce, instead of losing them during flood menace.
He assured the people that he would use his position as Speaker to ensure that all democracy dividends due to them from the state government were provided, urging them to continue to give maximum support to Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration in appreciation for the good work he is doing in the state.
The Speaker listed the governor's developmental strides in Ogbaru to include the transformation of Okpoko community into a mega city with the construction of 15.2 kilometers of roads in the area, building of a General Hospital, rehabilitation of ten schools in Ogbaru, construction of the Atani-Ozubulu road which is ongoing, as well as the ongoing construction of the Umunankwo-Ossomala bridge.
He added that Governor Soludo has also employed a lot of Ogbaru people into the medical and teaching services, while women of the area are benefiting from the free antenatal scheme instituted by the state government.
Addressing the people, Governor Soludo, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof.Solo Chukwulobelu, described the Speaker as a politician who has distinguished himself by rendering selfless service to the state.
He urged Ogbaru people to continue to support the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) and his government to enable his administration do more things for them.
The traditional ruler of Atani community, Igwe Augustine Ngodi described the processing plant as a noble step aimed at giving the people quality representation.
The Monarch noted that when completed, the project will go a long way to reduce the economic losses Ogbaru farmers incur during flood incidents.
He said that the Speaker has proved to be an exemplary and humane leader who considers the general welfare and well-being of the people he is representing .
