The Anambra State government has declared its intention to partner with GasInvest Limited, a consultant company to Shell Nigerian Gas, as part of measures to improve the energy and gas sector in the state.

The Chief Executive Officer of GasInvest Limited, Mr Michael Faniran, said during a courtesy visit to the MD/CEO, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Professor Charles Ofoegbu, that some data and inputs need to be captured as the project is data intensive.

At their meeting, they discussed the gas and power infrastructure master plan for Anambra State, the development of the Anambra State energy and gas master plan, as well as the current and the projected demand for the next 20 to 30 years, and where the demands are located.

Faniran said: "These two things are very important for the gas master plan, for us to know how geographically dispersed or configured these demands are, which would allow us to develop the very optimal infrastructure to serve the demand point".

On the synergy between the company and Anambra State Solid Minerals, he stated that the mining sector requires energy, which is why they want to know where the mining sites are located in the state, the benefits of the mineral resources and the location of the processing plants, to enable them develop the sector.

This, he added, will in turn serve as a demand center in terms of developing the energy infrastructure.

Responding, Ofoegbu stated that there are many mining sites in Anambra, but the new trend is to go downstream and give beneficiation that would add value to the mining sector.

Using the Kaolin Processing Plant at Ukpor, Nnewi South local government area as a case study, Prof Ofoegbu emphasized that the plant is a star project of Governor Soludo.

He recalled that the kaolin plant, which was abandoned many years ago, has been refurbished and the civil works completed.

According to him, the plan is to produce industrial class kaolin and pharmaceutical grade kaolin for medicinal purposes, adding that the equipment that would be used in running the factory are on ground already, while the commissioning of the project by the governor has been slated for the first week of March 2025.

Ofoegbu further said that a bentonite processing factory is being established in Nteje, Oyi local government area, to take care of the huge deposits of bentonite in the community and hoped that with the collaborative partnership between the two companies, the state's energy sector will soon come to limelight.
