The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), is to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to promote road safety and save lives in the state.
Speaking during a visit to the new Sector Commander of the FRSC, Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, the chairperson of NAWOJ Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika expressed NAWOJ's support and goodwill towards fostering a closer working relationship between the two organizations.
Alexander recently assumed duty as the 15th substantive Sector Commander of FRSC in the state.
Ifejika described Alexander as a trailblazer, noting that she is the first female Sector Commander in the state.
She emphasized the role of the media in public enlightenment and urged the FRSC to utilize various media outlets to spread road safety messages.
She drew attention to the alarming rate of fatal road crashes and reckless driving behaviours, such as neglecting seat belts and driving under external influence
In her speech, the Sector Commander expressed delight in receiving the NAWOJ delegation.
She spoke on the importance of the media in promoting road safety and highlighted her focus on public enlightenment, through her "MARC" (Mothers Against Road Crashes) initiative, seeking NAWOJ's partnership in the initiative.
The Sector Commander sought the support of the state government to effectively address road safety challenges.
She cited ignorance and recklessness as contributing factors to road crashes.
