Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has begun fresh membership registration and mobilization of old members across the 21 local government areas of the state as part of preparations for the 2025 governorship election.
Speaking during a rally at the state headquarters of the party in Awka, on Saturday, the state chairman of PDP, Chigozie Igwe explained that the ongoing registration exercise is mainly to get more members for the election.
According to him, the exercise, which is in line with the directive of the national headquarters in Abuja, would strengthen the party and bring cohesion among members.
Igwe said: "The primary goal of our great party, PDP, is to win future elections upon which we can implement our manifesto for the betterment of our people. That is the new spirit that we have imbibed in this remodeled Anambra PDP.
As a prelude, we will immediately embark on elaborate tour of our party formations in the local government areas to further oil the structures that we have activated.
We shall also proceed immediately with fresh party registration and mobilization for both old and new members. This will enable us to be adequately prepared and also maintain the wonderful dedication that has taken us this far.
It is no longer going to be business as usual in Anambra PDP as all efforts are geared towards winning the next election in Anambra state.
I can assure everyone that with what we are putting in place, PDP will produce the next governor of Anambra State in 2025".
The national chairman of PDP, Ambassador Umar Damagun, who spoke through the national auditor of the party, Chief Obi Okechukwu, expressed joy over the large turnout of members at rally.
He said that PDP is fully prepared to unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo's APGA -led government in the state to give the people good governance usually offered by PDP.
Damagun said the party has put all electoral measures in place to win the election and urged the members to have confidence in its leadership.
"With what I have observed in this rally in Anambra State, I can assure everyone that the bone shall rise again, and we will take over what belongs to us, come 2025," he said.
Many stakeholders of the party, including the former Minister of Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih, former member of House of Representatives, Dr. Harry Ohanezi, immediate past state chairman of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, among others, attended the rally.
