Gunmen have kidnapped another Catholic priest in Anambra State barely one month after another one was rescued by security operatives from abductors.
Reverend Father Christian Ike, who is the parish priest of Saint Matthew’s Church, Ajalli in Orumba North local government area, was abducted along with one Ogbonnia Aneke while returning to his parish after celebrating the Mass in an outstation on Sunday.
The Chancellor of Ekwulobia Diocese, Rev FLawrence Nwankwo, in a letter addressed to all parishes in the Diocese, called for prayers for the release of Fr Ike Ogbonnia Aneke.
The letter reads: “Dear Brothers and Sisters, CALL FOR PRAYERS. KIDNAP CASE, REV. FR. CHRISTIAN IKE
Please pray for the release of Rev. Fr. Christian Ike and Mr. Ogbonnia Aneke, who were kidnapped this morning around 9.45 a.m as they were returning from Mass in an outstation of St. Matthew’s Parish, Ajalli, Orumba North L.G.A.
We implore the maternal intercession of Our Mother of Perpetual Help for their release”.
Recall that exactly one month ago, a priest in Onitsha Archdiocese, Rev Fr Basil Gbuzuo was kidnapped at Nkpor, although he was released two days later.
