As His Majesty, the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, celebrates the 2024 Ofala festival on October 18–19, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has expressed deep admiration for the historic occasion and called for a revival of Igbo cultural heritage.

In a statement, Chukwuma , who is a governorship aspirant for the 2025 Anambra election, described Ofala festival as a crucial event that reconnects the Monarch with the people of Onitsha, to reinforce unity and cultural pride among the Igbo people.

“The Ofala festival exemplifies the beauty and depth of our Igbo heritage. As we honour His Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, in this celebration, we recognize the need for a cultural renaissance that will instil pride in our people and strengthen the values that define us," Chukwuma said.

He acknowledged the Obi’s role as a guardian of Igbo customs and traditions, emphasizing the festival’s significance in preserving the region’s unique cultural identity.

He also expressed his commitment to supporting cultural preservation, adding that traditional events like Ofala are invaluable for educating the younger generation on the importance of heritage.

“Under Agbogidi’s respected leadership, the Ofala festival has become a renowned platform to showcase the richness of Igbo culture. His Majesty’s dedication to cultural preservation is an inspiration to all who hold dear the legacy of our ancestors,” he stated.

Highlighting his vision for Anambra State, Chukwuma emphasized the need to invest in the arts, language, and traditional practices, pledging that if elected governor, his administration would create programmes that safeguard cultural traditions and foster a renewed sense of identity among the Igbo people.
