The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa has extolled what he called the commitment of the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu and other officials of the Commission towards the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
He spoke during a meeting of INEC and leaders of the political parties to assess the INEC readiness to conduct the gubernatorial elections slated for September and November in Edo and Ondo states respectively.
He described as proactive the steps that have been taken by the Commission to ensure that the electoral processes in the two states are credible.
According to him, the Commission had so far exhibited steadfastness, professionalism, and dedication to its duty to carry out a seamless exercise.
He said: "The leadership demonstrated by the Commission, under the guidance of its chairman, has been pivotal in preparing for these critical polls.
"Their commitment to excellence reassures us of the integrity of the electoral process."
The APGA national chairman urged INEC to remain undeterred by any potential distraction that might jeopardize its efforts, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement in the electoral process and the seamless deployment of the necessary technology to support the Edo and Ondo elections.
Ezeokenwa also commended the Commission for convening the routine consultative meeting with leaders of the various political parties in Nigeria, adding that such meetings foster a cordial relationship between political parties and the Commission, which is essential for deepening democratic ideals in the nation's polity.
