The Anambra State police command, has released Rev Father Samuel Aniebonam and his 87 -year old inlaw, Chief Sylvester Dinyelu, who were detained last week over their alleged involvement in the activities of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB.

Also released were five other persons arrested at Ifitedunu in Dunukofia local government area of the state.

Fr. Aniebonem, who works at St Patrick’s Cathedral Church, Awka, had gone for the release of Dinyelu at the anti-kidnapping unit of the Nigeria Police at Awkuzu, Oyi local government area, only for him to be arrested along with his driver, Udebunu Anachuna.

The director of information of BIM-MASSOB, Mazi Chris Mocha expressed happiness at the release of the detained persons.

He said that while it is a right for the oppressed people to agitate for independence, peaceful approach has to be adopted, adding that the group had never supported violent means for achieving self determination.

Mocha urged MASSOB members to remain consistent, resolute and steadfast which, according to him, is the only way through which the State of Biafra could be achieved.
