Defections hit APGA in Anambra

By Madu Obi

The candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency in the last general election, Hon. Chugbo Enwezo and Chief Ikenna Egbuna, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, have left the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.

Enwezor was a two-time Anambra State House Assembly member and contested for Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency seat in the last general election as APGA candidate.

Also a former member of Anambra State House of Assembly and a chieftain of APC who left the party in the last election was received back in the party.

Egbuna, on the other hand, had in the past contested the Onitsha South local government chairmanship position as an independent candidate, and later faced his legal practice.

They were received into APC during a mini rally organized by the chairman of APC in Onitsha North, Hon. Ezennia Chuka Ojekwe.

Addressing the party faithful, Chief Egbuna said that he will contribute his quota in ensuring the growth of the party and unseat APGA government in the next governorship election in the state.

Also, Hon Enwezor, in his speech said that his decision to join APC is to ensure that the state is a strong player in the national political space, adding that only people who are present on the table when things are shared get their own shares.

He argued that APGA will not lead Anambra to anywhere, adding that "we must stop thinking that APC belongs to any tribe in Nigeria. APC is the party of everybody in Nigeria"

He said: "APC is not for Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or any tribe but for all of us.

“The time when we were brainwashed with the claim that APGA is for us has gone. If we continue to stay in APGA we will not go far in national politics. If you are not at the sharing table, you cannot get anything.

“APGA does not cross the Niger Bridge. Soludo will leave APGA with time. Peter Obi ruled under APGA and left for PDP before joining Labour Party, LP, Willie Obiano, has ruled under APGA and left. The incumbent Governor will do the same at the appropriate time.

“We are coming to fortify the party and to take over the governorship seat in Agu Awka. Henceforth, APC will win all the elections in Onitsha and the State in general.

"We must all join hands to lift the party, old members should not be intimidated by our coming, the party is too big for all to participate, unity and oneness is what we need to win the state.

“We are here to take a strong resolve of taking the gospel of renewed hope to all the Wards. I appeal to party members to eschew bitterness and forgive one another, let us cease counting mistakes of the past".
