Former Minister of Aviation and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Osita Chidoka has suggested the halting of the swearing in of elected people until the resolution of all election petitions.
Chidoka, who spoke in a television programme, argued that the move would strengthen and improve Nigeria's electoral process.
He also advocated for the scanning of ballot papers and the appointment of election auditors to scan election results.
He said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the power to review results within seven days, a mechanism he believes, has not been utilized effectively.
According to him, INEC has powers to review results, cancel inappropriate ones, and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Chidoka also recommended the establishment of Election Offences Tribunals, as suggested in the Justice Uwais report, to address electoral malpractices.
