By Madu Obi

AS Nigerians join the entire world to celebrate Easter, the Pro-Chancellor of Olivia University Burundi, and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Paul Chukwuma, has assured citizens of hope, assuring that the prevailing obstacles in the country will be surmounted.

In his Easter message, Chukwuma implored everyone to reflect on the significance of sacrifice and service to others and acknowledge the importance of resilience and perseverance which he described as the virtues essential for overcoming challenges.

He tasked leaders in politics to prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests and work to uplift the marginalized and create opportunities for every Nigerian to thrive.

He said: "As we commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, l urge you to acknowledge the importance of resilience and perseverance, virtues essential for overcoming the surmountable challenges facing our nation.

"Easter serves as a joyful conclusion to the Lenten season of prayer, fasting and penitence. I pray that we see this period as one to renew hope and belief in our country. Let us draw inspiration from the message of Easter to unite as a people and strive towards a future where justice, equality, and prosperity prevail.

"I also implore everyone to reflect on the significance of sacrifice and service to others. As leaders in politics, let us prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests and work tirelessly to uplift the marginalized and create opportunities for every Nigerian to thrive."

"While we formulate policies for the development of our dear nation, let empathy and compassion guide our decisions, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of national development."

"It is my earnest prayer that this year's Easter celebration will be a catalyst for fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation amongst Ndi Anambra."

"I am aware that by transcending partisan interests and embracing a spirit of collaboration, we can surmount the obstacles hindering our progress and build an Anambra that fulfils the aspirations of every citizen"

"Together, let us forge ahead with renewed determination, committed to building a state of peace, prosperity, and unity."

Also delivering his Easter message, the governorship aspirant of the Labour Party for next year's Anambra election, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo urged Nigerians to contribute to the growth of their families and communities with faith.

He said: "For us Ndi Anambra across Nigeria and other nations of the world, I congratulate you on this year’s Easter. I also enjoin you to imbibe the teachings of Jesus Christ and learn the lessons that Easter emboedies - love and selfless sacrifice for one another."

We should also remember that this is season that demands for men and women of goodwill, people with integrity of their words and actions, people that would exhibit their humane and sacrificial behaviour in all they do, especially those holding positions of trust on behalf of all of us.

"Therefore, our leaders must realize that leadership demands sacrifices as epitomized in the life of Jesus Christ. Being bestowed with leadership is a sacred responsibility that must show the humility as exemplified by Jesus Christ Himself who made sacrifices by laying down His life for us all."

"As this Easter came in this gloomy economic environment, I call on Ndi Anambra, and indeed all Nigerians to remain steadfast, and to use this day and season to reflect on how best to discharge our primary responsibilities as citizens, which is to effectively hold our government and leaders accountable."

This entails demanding qualitative good governance from our leaders, in fulfilment of Section 24 of the 1999 Constitution which requires that citizens insisting that leaders abide by dictates of the constitution and be accountable.

"Part of this duty is to ensure that our leaders are held accountable for how they use public resources and the quality of services and infrastructure they are providing. It is part of our duties as citizens to ensure that our leaders’ delivery must match their rhetoric.

"I pray for the peace and prosperity of Ndi Anambra, that this Easter brings us hope, joy, peace as we commemorate God’s marvellous gift bestowed on us through His son Jesus Christ, our eternal hope and Prince of Peace."
