Enugu Lawyer writes DSS, demands arrest of Madonna University DVC, Mayfresh Mortgage Bank MD

By Iheanyi Chukwudi

Enugu based Human Rights Lawyer, Barr. Olu Omotayo has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and prosecute the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Madonna University, Prof. Martin Anagboso and the Acting Managing Director, Mayfresh Mortgage Bank, Mr. Mark Egbegolu.

Omotayo, in a fresh petition to the DSS is asking the Secret Agency to equally arrest one Annete Ezekwem, who is the Special Adviser to the Founder of Madonna University, Rev. Father (Professor) E.M.P. Edeh.

The trio according to him, are alleged to have connived with some officials of the Corporate Affairs Commission to steal shares of Chief Steven Edeh, Mr. John Paul and Mrs. Maria Omego.

The human right lawyer who had earlier petitioned the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), disclosed that after the intervention of the Registrar, Rev. Father (Prof.) E.M.P. Edeh, the Founder of Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Limited and Madonna University, on October 8, 2024, called for a meeting to broker peace.

His letter further reads,“At the meeting we realized that Professor Martin Anagboso, the DVC Madonna University, Elele, Annete Ezekwem, and their cohorts were the people who went to alter these records because my clients are the vocal shareholders who were demanding that over N4 Billion Naira Loan obtained by Madonna University from Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Limited are repaid."

“… what prompted these individuals to perpetrate this heinous crime is to silence these shareholders who have discovered that the substantial amount of the loan obtained by Madonna University went into the personal accounts of Annete Ezekwem and Martin Anagboso the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Madonna University.

This could be seen from the volume of direct transfers of funds from Annette Ezekwem’s personal account from the Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Branch, Elele .

The Central bank recently in its report on anomalies in the bank directed an investigation of the Acting Managing Director of the Bank Mr. Mark Egbegolu who was involved in N30.15m Fraud, and also directed the immediate recovery of all the monies advanced as Loan to Madonna University.

The officials of the Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department (OFID), sat on these Reports for months before the office of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria directed them to release the Report after a complaint of the Shareholders to the Governor.

On 4th November 2024, my client Mrs. Maria Omego, was invited to Elele, for a meeting by his elder brother Father Edeh, but surprisingly she was held hostage and made to write a letter of withdrawal of the complaint of stolen shares to CAC, dictated to her on phone by Festus keyamo (SAN), who is the lawyer to Prof. Martin Anagboso and his cohorts.

Before the unfortunate incident I had joined a conference phone call initiated with Mrs. Omego’s phone whereby I pointed to the other people on the call including Festus Keyamo (SAN), that what Anagboso did is a serious offence against the Nigerian state and an assault on the due process of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

We therefore state unequivocally that the letter of Withdrawal obtained by duress after Mrs Omego was held hostage should be discountenanced by the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission.

We demand that the Prof. Anagboso and his cohorts who compromised CAC procedures and altered the share structures of Mayfresh Mortgage Bank without the consent of our clients be made to face the full wrath of the law.

We submit that shares are personal properties of the owner and cannot be taken away fraudulently by anybody including the Commission without the consent of the owner.

We hereby demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of all the persons involved in these acts of cyber robbery and terrorism. We also attached the Central Bank of Nigeria report which sanctioned the bank in para IX, for providing misleading information to CBN, by falsifying all minutes books and Board Approvals, of the Bank transactions; these individuals are the managers of the bank and at the same time the borrower, borrowing public funds through Madonna University from the bank.

The Acting Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Mark Egbegolu who was involved in N30.15Million Fraud, is now presiding over investigation of fraud leveled against him, instead of proceeding on suspension to enable proper investigation as directed by the CBN.”
