There was excitement in parts of Anambra State weekend when news filtered in that the Federal Government has approved the contract for the construction of the 30 kilometers Otuocha- Nzam- -Innoma - Abaji (Kogi State) road at cost of N34 billion.
The road was abandoned after its contract was awarded on December 3, 2009 by the administration of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua to NigerCat Construction Limited.
The road links many rural and farming communities in Anambra East and Anambra West local government areas with Abaji in Kogi State and, when completed, would reduce the journey from Anambra State to Abuja to just three hours.
Due to the deplorable situation of the road, some of the communities in the area go through Illah in Delta State to access their homes and farmlands.
Some indigenes of the area lamented what they have been passing through and commended the Federal Government for coming to their rescue.
They thanked Dr Tony Nwoye, the Senator representing Anambra North at the 10th Senate, for making this a reality.
"We are grateful to our Senator, the Minister of works, the Federal Government and the leadership of 10th Senate for putting smiles on our faces.
Speaking on the contract, Senator Tony Nwoye assured that proper evaluation, monitoring and oversight will be carried out once the contractor moves to site, in order to ensure that quality work is done.
