There was excitement in Olumbanasa community, Anambra West local government area of Anambra State at the weekend when the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo landed there in a boat.
The area is one of the hard -to- reach agrarian communities of Anambra State where large quantities of crops are produced, but no means of evacuating them.
Press secretary to the governor, Mr. Christian Aburime said although Soludo would have made the trip with a helicopter, he chose to go by boat to enable him appreciate what the people living in that part of the state are passing through on a daily basis.
The governor's two hour journey on the River Niger was made with select officials of the state government.
On arrival at the community's harbour, Soludo hopped on a motorcycle, which he used to navigate the bush paths to all his destinations in the community.
The governor said the visit was a fulfillment of his campaign promise, and expressed optimism of assessing the Anambra West local government headquarters by road, by the end of December.
He also assured of helping the people realize their fullest potentials by rebuilding the needed infrastructure and providing security.
He urged the warring communities in Olumbanasa to pursue peace if they want sustainable progress and development.
Some of the places visited by the governor include Alla, Odekpe, Onugwa and Igbedor.
