The Federal Government has threatened to take legal action against Anambra State for allegedly refusing to distribute empowerment items donated to promote entrepreneurship and socio-economic development of women in the state.
Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who is the Minister representing Anambra State in President Bola Tinubu's government, expressed disappointment and frustration that her home state has failed to utilize the equipment, including industrial sewing machines and accessories.
The materials were distributed to 16 selected states, including Anambra, to empower women and enhance their economic prospects.
According to the Minister, Anambra State has failed to identify operational co-operative societies to receive the machines, thereby leaving them idle and unused.
She warned that if the machines were not operational by September 13, she would retrieve them and take legal action against the state.
The minister emphasized that leaving the equipment idle is unacceptable, especially when women in Anambra State need them to improve their livelihoods.
