The federal government and the organised Labour are currently meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja in a last minute effort at preventing the nationwide indefinite strike called by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

While the organised Labour is being represented in the meeting by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero; Secretary of the TUC, Nuhu Toro and his counterpart from NLC, Emma Ugbaja, the government team is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Others in the government team include the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; the Minister of State, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Beta Edu.

Also in the meeting are some directors from the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The organised Labour, had failed to show up as a scheduled meeting Friday evening.

Recall that the organised Labour on Tuesday, September 26, gave notice that Nigerian workers would be starting an indefinite industrial action, nationwide, from Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The indefinite strike, the organized Labour said is in protest of the harsh economic conditions in the country, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The workers who had accused government of unseriousness, premised their reason for the indefinite industrial action on the economic downturn in the country.
