The former speaker of the Ananbra State House of Assembly, Hon Anayo Nnebe has died at the age of 61.
Nnebe died at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi after a brief illness.
Until his death, he was the special adviser on legislative and assembly matters to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The former speaker was also elected a member of House of Representatives for Awka North South Federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In 2018, he defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state.
The state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo said he received with shock the news of the death of Hon. Nnebe, who he described as a distinguished son of Anambra State and a patriotic Nigerian, who served the state with honour, integrity, and excellence.
"He was a visionary leader, a brilliant legislator, and a passionate advocate for the welfare and development of his people and Anambra State."
"He was a man of peace, wisdom, and compassion. His death is also a huge blow to APGA and to the entire people of Anambra State. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him", Soludo said.
