Senator Uche Ekwunife (CON), The Director General of the South East Governors Forum, has urged Nigerian leaders to invest adequately in girls' education as a matter of prioriy.
In a ceremony to commemorate the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, Ekwunife said investing in girls' education would enable them achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.
She urged parents to prioritize their daughters' education and well-being, adding that this would help in fostering supportive home environments and encouraging learning, self-expression, and confidence-building.
She reminded young Nigerian girls that they are the architects of their own future and encouraged them to harness talents, creativity, and intelligence to contribute to their families, communities and the nation.
She also called on teachers to recognize potentials in every girl child by inspiring them to pursue their dreams.
"Government should invest in policies that support girls' education, health, and gender equality, and enact laws protecting girls from early marriage and gender-based violence.
There should be programmes providing mentorship, vocational training, and financial literacy to help girls thrive. There should also be commitment to empower both girls and boys for balanced, responsible future leadership.
By prioritizing girl child education and well-being, Nigeria can unlock future leaders' potential and build a brighter, more inclusive society," Ekwunife maintained.
