The TEC Engineering Company Nigeria Ltd, whose contract was terminated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for abandoning the work, has pleaded for a second chance, promising to deliver the project by December this year.

The contract was for the reconstruction of Niger Bridge head to Sokoto road and channelization of Nwangene River in Onitsha.

Soludo had paid an unscheduled visit to the project site in July, only to discover that the contractor had virtually left the site after collecting mobilization fee. He subsequently terminated the contract.

However, officials of the company have been visiting the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma to put in a word for them so that the governor could change his mind.

At a meeting in the state Ministry of Works, the Marketing Manager of the Company, Mr. Xiao assured that they would complete the road section before December 1, 2023 and the channel section by the end of December 2023.

Xiao stated that In the event of failure to meet the deadlines, government should feel free to invoke part of the terms of the contract, which provides that they pay fine as stipulated in Article 28 of the contract, or have the contract terminated.

In a letter to the governor, TEC Engineering Ltd assured the state government that it would deploy the best and certified technical manpower to undertake all aspects of the construction works and ensure that standards and professionalism were maintained.

It also pledged to mobilize more construction equipment to the site to enhance progress and prompt delivery of the work according to the revised programme.

The company explained that it has deployed new sets of equipment to the site, and brought the company's Deputy Managing Director from China to supervise the project, so as to protect their name and integrity.

Addressing them, the Commissioner for Works Mr. Okoma said his ministry would look at their programme of work, methodologies, manpower disposals and equipment disposals, noting that if they could abide by the agreements, they could deliver the work on schedule.

The Commissioner disclosed that TEC Engineering Ltd has another job with the ministry, adding that because they were doing well there, government considered them for a second one.

Okoma warned contractors working for the state government that it is not business as usual, stating that Governor Soludo was determined to deliver road infrastructure to the people of the state.
