God used Peter Obi to make me Senator - Tony Nwoye *Empowers 14,000 constituents

The Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr Tony Nwoye has recounted how God used the Labour Party presidential candidate in the February 25 election, Mr. Peter Obi, to make him a senator.

In an emotion- laden speech he made during his empowerment of over 14,000 persons in the senatorial zone at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, Nwoye also appreciated other people and groups that made his election possible.

Items distributed to the beneficiaries at the ceremony included engine boats and canoes for riverine communities, as well as generating sets, sewing machines, engineering kits, grinding machines, thousands of bags of fertilizers, rice and cash.

Going down memory lane, the Senator said: "It is God that uses people to make things happen. In 2011, I contested for House of Representatives and won, but I was denied representing my people.

"In 2013, with the support of Prince Arthur Eze, I contested for governor, but Chief Willie Obiano won with the support of Peter Obi and that was how the governorship came to Anambra North for the first time.

"It is the same God that used Peter Obi to make me a Senator in 2022 after I had contested for governor under PDP in 2021 and they said I was not a candidate.

"I never dreamt of becoming a senator under the Labour Party. I was in the church on May 29, 2022 when Peter Obi called me on phone and asked me to come to Asaba, and it was there that he gave me the LP senatorial ticket for Anambra North.

"He also gave others and campaigned for us and many of us won. What this shows is that whatever God has destined will surely come to pass."

Nwoye said the empowerment programme was aimed at reducing crime and unemployment in the senatorial zone and beyond, adding that he was disturbed each time he saw people, especially youths, roam the streets because they had no jobs.

He added: "What I am doing is to give back to the society and to thank God for seeing me through the 2023 general elections that made me who I am today."

"The beneficiaries, mostly youths and farmers, cut across political parties in all the seven local government areas of Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi, Ogbaru, Onitsha North and Onitsha South that constitute Anambra North Senatorial district."

Earlier, the Senator had taken part in thanksgiving services at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral and the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.

In attendance were Mr. Peter Obi, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, many traditional rulers from Anambra North, Senator Victor Umeh representing Anambra Central, Senator Kelvin Chukwu representing Enugu East, chairman of LP caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon Afam Ogene who represents Ogbaru federal constituency, among other federal and state lawmakers.
