Governorship aspirant for the 2025 Anambra election on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has commiserated with the families of the crew of SuperSports, the Nigeria Football Federation and the Army over the gunmen attack in Anambra on their way to Uyo to cover the Super Eagles - Libyan football match.
Members of the crew were ambushed along Ihiala-Orlu road, a development Chukwuma said, underscored the state’s deepening insecurity, which has cast doubts on the state government’s response to rising violence.
Speaking through his spokesperson, James Eze, Chukwuma said: “This attack has not only placed Anambra in an unfavourable light, but has revealed the urgent need for stronger security measures across our state.
Our thoughts go to the Nigerian Army, whose courageous response during the rescue attempt is deeply appreciated. We mourn with the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with all who are grieving.”
He called for a more proactive approach from the state government to address the rising insecurity, which he added, has disrupted daily life and tarnished Anambra’s reputation.
“The people of Anambra deserve safety and security. Incidents like this should serve as a wake-up call for the government to fulfil its responsibility to protect lives and restore peace to our communities,” he said.
