A Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu, is to oversee the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the university following the end of the five -year tenure of Professor Charles Esimone.
The announcement for Ikechebelu to take over the mantle of leadership was made at a special Senate meeting of the university held at the university auditorium.
Being the only Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the institution, Ikechebelu occupied the office in accordance with the National Universities Commission, NUC circular to Vice-Chancellors of federal universities across the country.
Fielding questions from reporters, Ikechebelu promised that there would be a new dimension in administration of the institution, assuring that there would be a defined pathway of excellence in steering the wheels of the institution in areas such as lighting up UNIZIK, addressing insecurity, digitizing and beautification of the institution.
He also promised that efforts would be made to tackle the power challenge as a matter of necessity.
"The digitalization of the institution will transit from the point of admission to graduation for the students right to the point of collection of transcripts", he said.
