Innoson test runs first indigenous electric vehicles

By Madu Obi

Anambra State - based Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing has begun the test-run of its electric vehicle (EV) at its Nnewi plant.

The milestone marks a significant step towards the company's plans to launch its EV factory in Nigeria.

During the test run, spokesman of Innoson, Cornel Osigwe, was seen behind the wheel of the new electric vehicle, expressing his excitement on social media.

This development follows Innoson's recent announcement to establish an electric vehicle factory in Nigeria.

Osigwe emphasized that all necessary components for EV production are readily available domestically, eliminating the need for imports.

"All the raw materials are in Nigeria. It doesn't make sense to import battery and major components of electric car batteries, which are the most expensive parts of EVs.

So, the company has thought it wise to set up an EV manufacturing company in Nigeria, enabling us to start producing EVs," Osigwe said.

He said that Innoson's pioneering effort in electric vehicle production is poised to revolutionize Nigeria's automotive industry, offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.

According to him, the company is expected to unveil its EV factory and commence mass production soon, making electric vehicles more accessible to the Nigerian market.
