By Madu Obi

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra ICT Agency, Mr. Fred Agbata has advocated the integration of

technology into Negeria's industrial space, arguing that it would create new opportunities and challenge the traditional norms.

Delivering a paper at a function organized by the University of Nigeria Alumni Association in Onitsha, Agbata, however, observed that the transformative change would come with its unique set of challenges.

"From promoting digital literacy to tackling cybersecurity concerns, we must collectively navigate these hurdles to fully harness the potential of the emerging digital economy," he said.

Citing Anambra State as an example, Agbata observed that the vision of the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to make the state a technologically sound, livable and prosperous smart mega city is already being propelled through the state ICT Agency.

He added: "The Agency has been entrusted with driving the governor's 'Everything Technology and Technology Everywhere' vision. Through collaborative efforts with relevant stakeholders, it has orchestrated a series of hands-on capacity-building programmes for civil servants, academia, the media, and civil society organizations (CSOs) in the state."

"We find ourselves at the crossroads of exciting trends in fintech, e-commerce, and digital innovation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) being the most outstanding now. "AI holds immense prospects in the world of digital citizenship, shaping the way individuals interact with technology and society at large."

"From enhanced user experiences, access to information ,data-driven decision making, cyber security to civic engagements and governance, AI is gradually shaping the way we live. The younger generation is not left out as they are continually leveraging various digital platforms for education, skills development, and entrepreneurship, fostering innovation and economic growth."

"However, as AI progresses, it is crucial to ensure that its implementation adheres to the tenets of digital citizenship, prioritizing inclusiveness, privacy.

"The prospects are vast, with the power to drive economic growth, innovation, and inclusivity. Let us, as the torchbearers of your alma mater, embrace these trends with foresight and a commitment to building a digital future that benefits every Nigerian."

"While we celebrate the promise of the digital age, we must acknowledge and address the challenges it presents. The digital divide, cybersecurity threats, and ethical considerations demand our

concerted effort."

"Our collective responsibility is to ensure that the benefits of the digital economy are accessible to all, leaving no one behind while preserving our data and the dignity of humanity."

"To pave the way for a brighter digital future, we must invest in digital education, bridge the gaps in access, and craft policies that foster innovation, while upholding the principles of human dignity."

He urged members of UNN alumni association to collaborate with governments, industry players and civil society groups so as to create an environment that supports sustainable growth and inclusivity.
