The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent passing of several prominent Igbo leaders.
Kanu, who spoke through his lead counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor conveyed his condolences to the families of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former Governor of Abia State and Minister for Science and Technology, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South, and recently, Dame Onyeka Onwenu, music legend
Kanu, who is being detained at the Abuja headquarters of the Department for State Service (DSS), described their deaths as a monumental loss to the Igbo nation.
He urged Ndigbo to offer prayers to avert further deaths and cautioned against speaking ill of the deceased, citing Igbo traditions.
The statement highlighted Onyeka Onwenu's close relationship with Kanu, who valued her private advice and remembered her as a firm believer in freedom.
