The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law, the Students Loan Bill.

The newly elected NANS chairman of Joint Campus Council (JCC) in Anambra State, Mr. Mathew Okpala said with the loan now effective, Nigerian students would be completing their education without hitches.

He said: “We, the students, want to convey our gratitude to our father and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the signing of the Students’ Loan Bill into law.

“This will help in ensuring that Nigerian students complete their studies without hitches and on record time.”

He pleaded with the President to also look into the issue of students' grant and consider Nigerians students worthy of receiving it.

The students leader also spoke on the worrisome insecurity around tertiary institutions in Nigeria, urging the President to ensure that the institutions receive adequate protection.

Recalling the incidences of mass abduction of students in tertiary institutions in parts of the country, as well as the rampaging cultists in Anambra State which have cut short the lives of students in both Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Okpala called for a serious attention to be paid in securing the campuses.

"To forestall such occurrences, we want to call the attention of Mr. President to the insecurity in our campuses."

“He should please look into it, as protection of lives and properties of Nigerians should be a major responsibility on his table,” he said.

He promised to work with the Students Union Governments in all the tertiary institutions in Anambra State to ensure that tales of incessant increment in tuition fees would be a thing of the past.

He also pledged support for Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s government in Anambra State, which he described as revolutionary.
