250 indigent students from the five South East geopolitical zone are to benefit from a scholarship scheme instituted by De Imperial Philanthropic Family Initiative, a nongovernmental organization.
The education committee chairman of the organization, Mr Chikezie Okonkwo, said in Awka that emphasis would be on intelligent indigent students, adding that the NGO was committed to creating opportunities for the less privileged in the society to have access to quality education.
According to him, the scholarship is open to students in JSS 1 from public secondary schools across the five South Eastern states of Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi.
Okonkwo said that essentially, the scholarship will take care of tuition, other fees, levies, school uniforms, textbooks and other educational materials, WAEC fees for junior and senior students, as well as JAMB fee for indigent students with exceptional academic records.
He said: "We have contracted the Best Brain Contest, an education consulting firm, to organize and select the beneficiaries and the total number of students to be given scholarship is 250."
"Mr Frank Igbojindu, the CEO Best Brain Contest, while signing the contract, has said that the examination to select the beneficiaries has been slated for November, 2023 and it will take place in Awka, Owerri, Umuahia, Enugu and Abakaliki respectively. The dates and venues will be announced soonest."
