NGO offers 550 Nigerians fully- funded scholarship

No fewer than 559 Nigerians are to benefit from a fully-funded scholarship scheme being financed by nongovernmental organization, NGO, the Ig Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation as part of its effort to promote education in the country.


The scholarship award is open to secondary and tertiary students from the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.


The Foundation currently supports 350 beneficiaries and aims to add 200 more beneficiaries this year, bringing the total to 550 by the end of 2024.


At a press briefing to announce the commencement of the process of the scholarship award, the executive secretary of the Foundation, Peace Chukwu, said the programme is aimed at supporting indigent and talented students across Nigeria.


She said that those expected to apply are students in Junior Secondary School (JS1 to JS3), Senior Secondary School (SS1 to SS3), and tertiary institutions, including Federal and State Universities, Colleges of Education, Polytechnic, Schools of Nursing, and other related institutions.


Chukwu said the scholarship opportunity is open to students who, in addition to demonstrating exceptional academic prowess, are in need of financial assistance, adding that students from public schools, as well as mission and private schools with low school fees are encouraged to apply.


She said: "From June 3, 2024, Interested applicants should visit the Ig Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation website at www.igahaf.org to submit their applications, following the outlined guidelines and procedures.


"Our Foundation will carefully review all applications and shortlist candidates who meet the criteria for participation in the scholarship examination.


"For secondary school students, the examination will cover English Language, Mathematics, and Igbo language. Tertiary students will be tested on the use of English, Igbo language and critical thinking skills.


"Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the examination in Awka, Anambra State at a venue to be announced.


"Successful candidates who pass the examination will be awarded fully-funded scholarships starting from their current academic level through their tertiary education.


"We are committed to empowering bright minds and providing opportunities for deserving students to excel in their academic pursuits.


"We encourage eligible students to take advantage of the scholarship opportunity to further their education and reach their full potential"
